Disarmament and International Security Committee

The United Nations Disarmament Commission (DC) was established in 1952 with the mission of proposing treaties to regulate, reduce, and balance armed forces and armaments, including weapons of mass destruction. Meeting annually, the DC focuses on select topics and works through specialized working groups led by different UN Member States.

Topic 1: The Use of International Prohibited Weapons

The use of banned weapons like chemical, biological, and nuclear arms raises significant humanitarian and legal concerns. DISEC discussions will focus on enhancing treaty effectiveness, enforcing regulations, and devising prevention strategies to address this global security threat.

Topic 2: Data Collection as a Threat to International Security

The internet, used by 5.07 billion people, is a key resource for data collection, affecting election integrity, digital sovereignty, and cybersecurity. This prompts the need for international dialogue on the sociopolitical impact of data usage and privacy, urging strategies for addressing these critical issues.
